As with the quarter eagles, Liberty half eagles had their reverse design modified with new coinage hubs prepared. This example illustrates the old hub and the Narrow Mill. The eagle’s claws nearly close on the branch and the details of branch and arrows are heavy. This outstanding Proof example is one of just two such coins known to exist, the other residing in a private collection. Although acquired later, this lovely example has the incomparable Eliasberg Collection included in its pedigree.
