This is the third variety in the present display of coins from the Bass Collection to feature reverse B as described by Walter Breen. This particular marriage has an extensively cracked obverse. However, it does not have the rim break over the final S in STATES, as seen on the two preceding examples, HBCC-3090 and 3091. This is Breen variety 3-B, struck prior to HBCC-3090 and 3091. An earlier die state of this obverse, without extensive die cracks, may be seen at HBCC-3093.

Provenance:
From Abe Kosoff's 1966 ANA Sale, August 1966, Lot 1976.
