This is the final variety of 1799 in the present display, and was identified by Walter Breen as 4-I. In 1966, Breen noted: “I have not seen a specimen of this variety, and describe it from … the coin pictured in Adams.” This Bass Collection example is different from the Adams coin and was acquired at the 1968 ANA Sale. Today, the variety remains legitimately rare and deserves a rating of Rarity-7. This reverse die was used in 1798 as displayed at HBCC-3057.

"Obverse: Very close date, 1 and 9 clear. Star 9 touches Y. Crack thru 7 to L. Reverse: That of 1798F. Small stars. Crack edge - left of O - cloud - ribbon - base of left wing."
