The medallic issue with extremely high relief required nine cycles of the coining press at an extremely high pressure of 172 tons for each example. The requirement of nine cycles was an unreasonable expectation for production, so dies were prepared with much shallower depth. These coins with high relief were created with just five cycles of the coining press, still an exhaustive process for coinage intended for circulation. This superb example is a nice companion to the extremely high relief specimen. These with flat rim have a wide, squared border around the entire circumference.

Provenance:
Purchased from RARCOA, April 10, 1973.
Obverse:
Style as preceding, but in slightly lowered relief (but still "high relief"); fields shallower.
Reverse:
As preceding, but in slightly lowered relief (but still "high relief"); fields shallower.
